Present continuous passive



 

We use this tense in the below statement.

When describing events that are taking place right now or shortly after, the present continuous passive tense—also referred to as the present progressive tense—is employed. It draws attention to how continuous an action is.

1. In present continuous (passive) we use is being, am being, are being as helping verbs.

           Is  being                              AM  being                        ARE being

 ( he, she, it singular noun)       ( I )       (we, you, they, plural noun)


2. We use 3rd form of verbs in all passives.

3, We use (by) before object.

3. For English to English sentences we change the place of subject and object.

4. After the placing of the subject, the subject will be changed into 


  He...................him

  She..................her

  It.......................its

   I........................me

  We......................us

  They ................... them

   You....................you


  Active to passive 

Structure

Affirmative sentence

Object + is being /are being/am being + 3rd of the verb + by + subject


Active: The cook is cooking a delicious meal.

Passive: A delicious meal is being cooked by the cook.

Negative sentences

Object + is not being /are not being/am not being + 3rd of the verb + by + subject

Active: He is not writing a novel.

Passive: A novel is not being written by him.

Interrogative Sentence

Is Object/are Object/am Object + being + 3rd of the verb + by + subject?

Active: Is the cook cooking a delicious meal?

Passive: Is a delicious meal being cooked by the cook?

Examples  change the voice 

  1. Active: They are designing a new website. Passive: A new website is being designed by them.

  2. Active: We are conducting experiments in the laboratory. Passive: Experiments are being conducted by us in the laboratory.

  3. Active: The cook is cooking a special dish. Passive: A special dish is being cooked by the cook.

  4. Active: The construction experts are building a skyscraper. Passive: A skyscraper is being built by the construction experts

  5. Active: They are organizing an event next week. Passive: An event is being organized by them next week.

  6. Active: Gardeners are planting new flowers in the garden. Passive: New flowers are being planted by Gardeners in the garden.

  7. Active: Pupils are solving complex math problems. Passive: Complex math problems are being solved by the pupils.

  8. Active: We are renovating the old house. Passive: The old house is being renovated by us.

  9. Active: She is writing a novel. Passive: A novel is being written by her.
