Present Indefinite (Active)



 Actions or events that are routine, regular, or universal truths are described in the present indefinite tense. It is frequently the first tense that students learn because it is one of the most basic tenses in English grammar.

1.In present indefinite tense we use first form of verb .

2. We use do and does as helping verb.

(A) Do is  used with I, we, you, they, and plural noun.

(B) Does is used with he, she, it, and singular noun.

3. Do and does will not be used in simple sentences.

4. In simple sentences we use s/es with verb.

5 S/es are used with the verb of  he, she, it, and singular noun.

6. We do not use s/es with the verb of  I, we, you, they and plural noun.

7. When a verb of he, she, it, and singular noun ends at o , ss , sh , ch , x (es) is used, 

8. In the rest (s) is used.


Structures

1. Affirmative without s/es

Subject + 1st form of the Verb + Object

I go to school.

2. Affirmative with s

Subject + 1st form of verb+s + object

She reads book.

3. Affirmative with es

Subject + 1st form of verb +es + object

He goes to bazaar.

4.Negative with does

Subject + Does + Not +1st Form of the Verb +Object

She does not drink milk.

5. Negative with do

Subject + Do + Not +1st Form of the Verb +Object

They do not write a letter.

6. Interrogative with does

Does + Subject + 1st Form of the Verb + Object?

Does he like him.


7. Interrogative with do

Do+ Subject + 1st Form of the Verb + Object?

Do they take tea.


8. Double Interrogative

(Wh family+ Do/Does + Subject + 1stForm of the Verb + Object?

She always takes tea before going to bed.

2. General Truths:


Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.

3. Scheduled Events:


The bus departs at 7:30 AM every day.

4. Permanent States:

1. Third-Person Singular (He, She, It):
When using the Present Indefinite tense, 's' or 'es' are added to the verb's base form for third-person singular subjects (he, she, it singular noun).

Example: He eats pizza every everyday.
